For the 2011 season of Painting Holidays (five weeks in Angles sur l'Anglin), we are very pleased to welcome again our regular tutors, David Howell, Liz Butler, and the enthusiastic duo of Brian and Maggie Robinson.
The Prehistoric Cave Sculptures are now open to the public with the recent opening of the very impressive new site. The project has a high international profile and is seen on TV and press internationally.
Last year we repeated the previous years' painting exhibition, at the request of the Tourist Office, of our private collection of paintings. The paintings, mainly of Angles, we had collected over the years from tutors and guests. We must say that the 100 plus works on display attracted much interest from the 1000 or so visitors. The exhibition was held in the old Chapelle Sainte Croix just in front of our home.
New to the village is a Book shop and bookbinding business, situated on the village square.
A new tourist office has been built on the village square with a special section for the world renowned 'Jour d'Angles'. We also expect a special room for displays by visiting artists.
The annual fireworks continue to be a big attraction in the region, attracting over 5000 people in 2010. The fireworks are held on the first Sunday in August.
The village is also getting national renown for its annual 'Book Fayre' which takes place each year in mid August. In 2010, an estimated 18000 visitors came over the four days, enjoying the 100 stalls, street entertainment and evening lectures. The chateau is a wonderful setting for the traditional 'story tellers' who come from all over France to 'tell a tale'.
For B & B , we are open all year, when the houses are not in use for painting holidays.
