PAINTING TUITION  ANGLES SUR L’ANGLIN 2010

We are pleased to have five professional artists with us this season,  Liz Butler,  Brian and Maggie Robinson, David Howell and, for the first time, Robert Brindley  offering high quality tuition and support.

Robert Brindley RSMA

Robert is a member of the prestigious Royal Society of Marine Artists (R.S.M.A.).  He has shown and sold works in London at the Mall Galleries, with the Royal Society of Marine Artists (R.S.M.A.) and the Royal Institute of Oil Painters (R.O.I.) he was subsequently featured on Tyne Tees Television's "A Day In The Life Of ..." series.  His work is sold in many galleries throughout the United Kingdom.

Born in Burton-upon-Trent, Staffordshire in 1949, Robert worked in the Structural Engineering field as a Computer Aided Design Manager until 1992 when he moved to Whitby, North Yorkshire and became a full time painter.  Working in Watercolour, Oil, and Pastels, Robert's main inspiration is the challenge of capturing light and atmosphere in a modern impressionistic style.  He paints, mainly landscape and coastal scenery, around his home in North Yorkshire, and on painting trips to Cornwall, the South Coast of England, Wales, Scotland and further a field in Venice, Holland, France, Corfu and India.  Robert tutors in Watercolour, Oil & Pastel to groups of Art Society students & private tuition at his Home Studio in Sleights.  We are very happy to welcome Robert to Angles sur l’Anglin for two weeks where we are sure his style of painting and pleasant personality will be a success with both regulars and new visitors.  Visit Robert at  www.robertbrindley.com to see examples of his work.

Maggie & Brian Robinson

They work together as a team of well experienced tutors, running courses for students of all ages and also from their home studio in Essex.   They are moving to the North of England which will give them new challenges.

Brian comes from a family of artists and has loved painting since childhood.  He trained at Art School and ran his own graphic design business for 30 years. He has an innate ability to help people see things correctly, helping them to draw and paint with wonderful freedom.  He has exhibited and sold work for many years.

Maggie, a graduate of Bedford College and London University, spent many years working with adult groups interrelating painting with other art forms.  She is passionate about painting and loves to help people develop their own style, "a journey that is exhilarating, challenging, frustrating, but above all enormous fun!" .  She has had several paintings selected for the Society of Women Artists exhibition in Westminster.
Both Brian and Maggie paint and teach in all media but specialise in watercolour.  Their enthusiasm is catching.

Liz Butler is a professional working artist, specialising in watercolour. Trained at Liverpool and the Royal College of Art, she is a member of the Royal Watercolour Society and is represented by the Francis Kyle Gallery. She has combined painting and exhibiting regularly with teaching at various art colleges since leaving college in 1973.  She teaches watercolour on a regular basis at Dulwich Picture Gallery in London.
More recently she has taught on painting holidays, in Greece, the Dordogne and Angles sur l'Anglin with us.

David Howell is a full time painter working from his studio in Somerset, England, painting in watercolour, oils, and pastels, and concentrating particularly on marine and landscape subjects. He also paints equestrian pictures with particular emphasis on racing and associated activities. This will be the sixth year that David has joined us as a tutor in Angles sur l'Anglin and previously on Ile de Re.  He can quite cheerfully alternate between encouraging enthusiastic amateurs and getting into serious discussion with advanced painters. David tutors in all media including watercolour and oils.
He is President of The Royal Society of Marine Artists

Painting Tuition

The most popular medium is Watercolour but other media are also catered for.  The painting and drawing tuition is usually en Plein Air and is designed for all levels, from beginner to the more experienced painter.  It is, after all, a Painting Holiday with no formal exams at the end of your week.  The tuition is friendly and informal on a 'one to one' basis, allowing you to develop at your own pace knowing that the tutor is on hand to help with drawing, composition, perspective, colour mixing, colour theory, mixed media experiments etc.  All our tutors encourage students to develop powers of observation and personal vision and to experiment with media, enjoy painting and be creative.
Most Tutors will do demonstrations if you wish.

One advantage for Angles sur l’Anglin is the proximity of wonderful locations very near to your accommodation.
